We had the most wonderful time
My kids and I went ballooning with Rick Behr of Bear Balloons and we had the most wonderful time. He knew all about the history of Charlottesville when we asked questions or if we saw a landmark but for much of the ride we enjoyed the peace and quiet of flying over gorgeous countryside. The crew was very professional and gave us lovely pictures of our flight afterwards along with a celebratory toast. Departing for our flight and coming back to the Boar’s Head Inn for our toast afterwards was delightful as well. We have already scheduled our next flight with him and have given two flights with Bear Balloons as a wedding present and an anniversary present.
This was absolutely amazing and a must-do activity if you are in Charlottesville! Rick Behr is a fantastic guide and pilot. He made the trip a lot of fun and is also extremely knowledgeable due to his vast experience ballooning all over the world. The mountain views are breathtaking. If you enjoy trying different kinds of outdoor activities, don’t pass this one up. It’s well worth the early morning wake up!
A true Charlottesville experience!
This time of year is the best for the Sunrise flight. With the cool, crisp mornings and prevailing winds blowing to the North, the flight path shows off some spectacular foliage. i could not take enough pictures. I was surprised it was not very cold, but when the pilot explained we are moving WITH the wind, so you aren’t feeling it, it made sense, but the opposite of saling, so dress for the temperature! Rick, the pilot, sure knows his stuff and is very informative. When we flew over the reservoir, he dipped the basket so it skimmed the water. Wasn’t at all scary, and very impressive flying. we were in the air about 45 minutes before we set down in a field, and every pitched in to roll up the balloon to pack it in the trailer that followed our flight. A van takes you back to the boars Head Inn. This is not a cheap outing – over $200 per person – but unforgettable and great for a special occasion for when wealthy relatives visit!
